Individual Rating Results for E-Prime
Review 9 of E-Prime on Nov 02, 2012
Other Comments/Similar Tools:
Forces you to assign Subject IDs with numbers only, two four-digit blocks, separated by a hyphen. As if that wasn't stupid enough, also bails if your Subject ID then exceeds 3275. Seriously people?

Ratings/Long-term Prospects Comments:
E-Prime is a powerful and useful tool for psychological research. There is a bit of a learning curve with the program, but the support staff and online samples/resources are very helpful when using E-Prime. The interface enables people who do not know how to code to create simple, precise experiments. However, a background in coding - or at least the ability to take samples from the website and adapt them to one's needs - enables an individual to do much more sophisticated things with E-Prime.
Other Comments/Similar Tools:
The program does crash, which can become frustrating very easily. Saving frequently is definitely good advice when working with E-Prime. Also, it seems like standard logging is not always set as the default, even when an input on a slide has been added - always triple check that the logging you need is set properly to avoid running a bunch of participants and then ending up with missing data.

It is a great shortcut to writing script. It only takes a day or two to design a complete experiment in E-prime.

we're a little disappointed that E-Prime 2.0 is not in a "Final" release by now. It does not really have any effect on our ability to create experiments, but it just seems long over due. We have otherwise been happy with E-Prime at our site. We are long time users and have many people with a high level of expertise and experience. Installs easy, the documentation is a bit outdated, but support/forum has been quick to help when needed.

it's a nice simple tool to quickly build experiments, however if you really want to play around with the design I would go for matlab

I have used the software for functional MRI experiments. The software works well. The mail limitation is that it is very difficult to program. The documentation is limited. It takes hours of work to program simple tasks.
